You simply cannot miss the thrill of watching the sunset from the southernmost tip of Attica. The route from Athens, along the Athenian Riviera, is beautiful; the scenery at Cape Sounio, breathtaking; the ancient temple of Poseidon, god of the sea, standing on top of the rock, just majestic. In antiquity, this was an important strategic point, from which the city-state of Athens controlled the sea passage to the Aegean and Piraeus. Evenings here more often than not end with a spontaneous applause to the sun as it dives to the sea.
